Because water conservation can be beautiful, intriguing and creative

The contest is open to professional artists and amateurs; individuals and groups. Finished rain barrels must be submitted on or before Tuesday, September 24th, 2019.

Friends, neighbors, classmates...anyone from anywhere will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite rain barrel in the amateur and in the professional artist category. The voting will be online starting September 27th and ending at 11:59 pm on October 4th.

Participants can also opt to have their rain barrel auctioned off and receive the amount of the winning bid minus auction fees.

Rain barrels will be showcased at the various locations during the Rockford Sustainability Summit on September 28th.

On October 5th, during Fall ArtScene, we invite you come to the Test Site Art Gallery our GALA. The event is from 5 pm - 8:30 pm with awards announced at 7 pm.

This an absolute must if you want to be in the contest.

  • The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) sells rain barrels.

  • You can make your own rain barrel. Do a little research on the internet for some options.

  • Ask your neighbor, who has a rain barrel, if you can paint it. Who knows, they might just welcome the idea. No harm asking.

  • Read the PDF that contains "The Why, What, How, When...." for a fourth suggestion.
